3 Hacks to Help Reveal Your Life's Purpose

3 Hacks to Help Reveal Your Life's Purpose

Everything that happened in this young man’s life prepared him for the moment that was yet to come.

Usually, that’s something you hear when, say, a guy who spent an eternity rocking with his buddies in the garage landed a gig on a national stage.

But this time, the same message took on a heart-wrenching sense of urgency. Our young friend’s cancer came back with a vengeance. Doctors, realizing that available treatments offered little hope, decided to stop the chemo and radiation and let him live life to the fullest until he was called home.

For a whole month, that’s just what he did, prepared by all that came before to recognize what really mattered. No holds barred, he went full steam ahead, focusing on family, travel, and his true passion – making music – as if he had nothing to lose.

And in his wake, he left many friends in awe, wondering why they’ve waited so long to put their lives in balance. Is this what it would take to put us on the path to an OolaLife?

It’s a journey we take together. But when is the last time you really thought about it, how everything you’ve experienced in life, the good and the bad, girded you for what’s ahead? All that you are today comes from what you’ve learned, the big question now is how you’ll use it to reach even higher.

It’s kind of like contemplating the great expanse of the universe; it’s bigger than anything you can imagine and then a little more. Yet, even as a minuscule speck in the grand scheme of things, we are destined for greatness.

Don’t wait for a wake-up call to unlock your potential to live life as God intended. What can you do, right now, to find your purpose in life? Think of a baby-step you can take tomorrow toward realizing your dreams.

To quote Sheryl Sandberg, “What would you do if you weren’t afraid?”

Here’s a good start:

  • Reconnect with the higher power behind our purpose in life. If we have faith and hope, we already recognize the inherent awesomeness we all carry. Now it’s a matter of tapping into the passion. What is your purpose in life? Why were you put here? Unearth that long-buried dream. As Friedrich Nietzsche puts it, “He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how.” Find what really matters to you and pursue it with passion!

  • Love who you are. Someone once pointed out that if you put a small value upon yourself, you can rest assured that the world will not raise your price. Are you selling yourself short? Are you letting those lethal OolaBlockers – fear, guilt, and self-sabotage, to name a few – convince you that you’re not worthy of greatness? Give yourself a big hug and push through the negative self-talk. Don’t wait until it’s too late!

  • One of the most moving lessons learned from our young friend was his sense of humility and gratitude. While he respectfully asked for room to breathe, he never stopped thanking all who supported him, even in sentiments shared by his closest friends following his death. Where can you start your Gratitude Journal? How about thanking the one who created you for giving you another day, another decade, to fully live life as intended? Everything you’ve done in your lifetime has prepared you for this moment – where will you go from here?
